Firmaotsing

The Estonian business register (RIK) is the source of truth for every company in the country, but the official search is a list of fields. Firmaotsing puts a natural-language layer on top: ask in plain Estonian or English (“logistics companies in Tartu county founded after 2020 with under 50 employees”) and get back a ranked list of real entities.

The flow on the search side is small and predictable: the user’s prompt goes to Claude Haiku in tool-use mode, which returns a structured JSON of filters; the backend turns that into a parameterised SQL query against Postgres and returns matches. No embeddings, no opaque ranking — just a model good at parsing English/Estonian into well-formed filters.

A Python ETL ingests RIK data on a schedule with streaming JSON parsing and writes it to the same Postgres. Web app is Next.js; everything is provisioned with AWS CDK across DNS, certs, network, database, ETL, and the search Lambda.
